In a broad sense, these themes are the most common themes of Third World, post-colonial and commonwealth literature. Jhumpa Lahiri, the first Indian author to win prestigious Pulitzer Prize in the USA for her collection of short stories “Interpreter of Maladies”, is a second generation Indian writer whose caliber as a diasporic writer is excellent. She is a class herself in revealing diasporic status through her works.
