Tag question/ Question tag and use ,rule , important examples of them:

A tag question is a statement followed by mini question.
The whole sentence is a “tag question” and the mini question at the end is called a “question tag.”

The rule: At the end of a statement, a comma (,) is used and at the end of question tag, note of interrogation is used. such as- a. He is a poet(statement), isn’t he(question tag).

Two words are generally used in question tag. The first word between two words may be auxiliary verb/ modal verb[am/is/are/was/were/can/could/do/ does/did etc and the second word may be pronoun(he/I/we/she/they etc). The pronoun indicates the subject of a statement.

The rules of (a) Positive statement, negative tag? and some important examples:

a. You are writing, are n’t you?
b. He is unhappy, is n’t he?
c. We are students, are n’t we?
d. We have finished the work, have n’t we?
e. You like coffee, do n’t you?
f. We enjoyed the game, did n’t we?
g. They will help, won’t they?
h. I can come, can’t I?
i. We must go,mustn’t we?
j. He should try hard, should n’t he?
k. You are English, are n’t you?
[ No auxiliary for Main verb be present and past.>
l. He was there, was n’t he?
m. She wrote a letter, didn’t she?
n. Monika was absent, wasn’t he?
o. Mitu lives in a village, doesn’t she?
p. Birds fly , don’t they? q. Habib kills time, doesn’t he?
r. You made a mistake, did n’t you?
s. I shall do it,shan’t I?
t. She has a cow, hasn’t she?
[In the case of imperative, tag will/won’t is used.]
u. Open the window, won’t you?
v. Please lend me your car,won’t you?
only 28 verbs question tag are used.
They are : am=amn’t, are=aren’t, was=wasn’t, were= weren’t, can=can’t, could=couldn’t, should=shouldn’t, has=hasn’t, haven’t=have, had=hadn’t, shall=shan’t, will=won’t, may=mayn’t, might=mightn’t, need=needn’t, do=don’t, does=doesn’t, did=didn’t, dare= daren’t, ought=oughtn’t, used to=used n’t, must =mustn’t, would=wouldn’t.

2. The rule of negative tag question: Negative statement, positive tag?

exaples: a. It is n’t raining, is it?
b. We have never seen that,have we?
c. You do not like coffee, do you?
d. The will not help, will they?
e. They won’t report us, will they?
f. We must n’t tell her, must we?
g. He was not there,was he?
i. He should n’t drive so fast,should he?
j. I can never do it right, can i?
k. We should n’t play, should we?
l. Habib does not read,
does he?
j. Saon doesn’t get up early in the morning, does he?
k. We didn’ enjoy the game, did we?
l. It mayn’t rain,may it?
m. She does not look beautiful , does she?
n. It isn’t useful, is it?
o. Monika doesn’t like me, does she?
p. It isn’t big, is it?
q. He doesn’t like it, does he?
r. We will not go there, will we?
s. He can’t do the sum, can he?
t. They weren’t rich, were they?
u. He wasn’t poor, was he?
v. We should n’t hate the poor, should we?
w. The girl isn’t ugly, is she?


The basic structure :
1. Positive statement, negative tag?
He is a student , isn’t he?
2.Negative statement,
positive tag?
He doesn’t like me, does he ?
